We’re excited to unveil The Film Stage’s new look before the decade comes to a close! Your spotlight on cinema has received a major overhaul as we move into a new era and look towards the future.

New Logo

Jared Mobarak, The Film Stage’s own intrepid reviewer, is also a talented graphic designer and has created a beautiful new logo for, as seen above, which gives a nod to the past while also looking toward a sleeker future. One can see more of his work here.

A New Design

Eight years since our last revamp, it was time for an overhaul. The top priority in developing our new look was easier access to our latest posts with improved readability and a more intuitive way to experience The Film Stage. On our homepage, you’ll now see the latest articles immediately in the slider at the top, which one can move left and right to find the latest handful of updates. Scrolling down, one will find reviews, podcasts, features, interviews, and more presented in a bolder, easier-to-browse fashion. There’s also infinite scroll across our pages, thus less need to click around and one can just keep reading.

Our new design allows us to customize our homepage even more. As we cover specific festivals or focus on a certain type of coverage, such as our upcoming Sundance and Berlinale dispatches and year-end features, look for new areas presenting the latest and greatest posts. Select features will also have a new look, with a more attractive presentation of images. Check out the new navigation drop-downs as well for a more intuitive presentation of our latest posts.

Part of this new design is also an easier way to listen to our podcasts or watch videos, including trailers. Moving forward, just click the play button on the featured image of a post and they will be presented in a new, full-screen format.

The Film Stage Show and The B-Side

Speaking of podcasts: we’re pleased to announce The B-Side is now available on its own feed! Our bi-weekly podcast, hosted by Dan Mecca and Conor O’Donnell, explores movie stars and not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones they made in-between. Recent episodes feature Adam Sandler, Robert De Niro & Al Pacino, Angela Bassett, Jennifer Lopez, Will Smith, and more.

Suggestions?

While we’re confident our new look heralds an exciting new version of The Film Stage, we inspire to be as far away from Box Office Mojo-levels of redesign disaster as possible, so we want to hear from you! Contact us here with any questions, comments, or concerns.

We’ll continue to improve the site in the coming weeks and months, so stay tuned for updates and new features. Because there are also a few design tweaks to be ironed out, expect a few peculiar occurrences, especially when it comes to updating the previous eleven-plus years of posts.

As always, we appreciate your readership and support of independent film journalism. Thank you for following us. We look forward to a new era of The Film Stage!
