Heading into January, there’s no doubt the cinematic outlook is a bit rough with discarded studio projects and leftovers of award hopefuls, but every so often there are a few bright spots. 20th Century Fox is hoping they have one on their hands with the Russell Crowe/Mark Wahlberg drama Broken City and after a debut trailer, the first clip has landed today. Featuring a conversation with our two stars, the Allen Hughes-directed project is certainly playing in familiar territory, but hopefully it’s a nice early year surprise.

We’ve also got the first clip from from David Chase‘s directorial debut Not Fade Away. The Sopranos creator follows a group of New Jersey childhood friends who have dreams of making it back in rock ‘n’ roll in this 1964-set drama and one can see them practicing their tunes in this clip. There is no James Gandolfini to be had, but one can check it out below featuring John Magaro, Jack Huston, Will Brill and Brahm Vaccarella, as well as our NYFF review here. [Yahoo/Rolling Stone]

Not Fade Away arrives on December 21st, while Broken City opens on January 18th.
