We have the first look at footage for two highly anticipated festival titles. With Fish Tank being one of my favorite films from 2010, I’m greatly anticipated Andrea Arnold‘s Wuthering Heights. I wasn’t sure if the film, premiering soon at Venice Film Festival, would take on the verite style Arnold is known for (also seen in her drama Red Road), but with the first footage (from C7nema, via The Playlist) we now have an answer.

Her trademark style is indeed back and it looks gorgeous. Four clips can be seen below, but I only checked out the first in order to save the rest for viewing at Toronto in a week or so. Based on Emily Bronte‘s classic novel, the film stars James Howson as Heathcliff, as well as Kaya Scodelario, Steve Evets, Oliver Milburn and Nicola Burley. Check out the footage below and more photos here.

Synopsis:

The story follows a Yorkshire hill farmer on a visit to Liverpool who finds a homeless boy on the streets. He takes him home to live as part of his family on the isolated Yorkshire moors where the boy forges an obsessive relationship with the farmer’s daughter.

Wuthering Heights will hit UK theaters this year, but has no US distribution yet.

Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival and recently announced as the closing film of London’s film fest, we have the first clip from the upcoming drama from Terence Davies, The Deep Blue Sea. Check it out below via The Playlist.

Based on  Terence Ratigan‘s 1952 play of the same name, the film stars Rachel Weisz, Tom Hiddleston and Simon Russell Beale. The story centers on Hester Collyer (Weisz), a housewife in the 1950s married to judge William Collyer (Beale) but, of course, it’s not that simple – Hester is having an affair with ex RAF man Freddie Page (Hiddleston). Check out more photos here.

The Toronto International Film Festival kicks off on September 8th and come back for our extensive coverage from the festival, including reviews of the above films.
