Since his trio of Lord of the Rings films, Viggo Mortensen has pretty much done what every pleases him when it comes to feature projects. From three David Cronenberg projects to taking a journey down The Road, then actually heading On the Road, his choices always seem to stray away from the spotlight.

As he’s currently shooting The Two Faces of January with Kirsten Dunst, his next project indicates as much. According to Variety, Mortensen will not only star in, but produce, the next drama from Lisandro Alonso, who gave us the Cannes dramas La Libertad and Liverpool.

This untitled film will see the actor head to Denmark and Argentina, where a Dane (Mortensen) and his daughter “journey to a desert that exists in a realm beyond the confines of civilization.” Despite the intriguing plot, not much else is known for the film written by Alonso and Fabian Casas.

As production begins early next year, expect this one on the fall festival circuit if all goes according to plan.
