A War tobias lindholm

The reactions from this past fall indicated that Tobias Lindholm‘s A War is a cracking success, no less intense than the writer-director’s much-lauded 2012 picture A Hijacking. (The man is consistent in his titling, at least.) And so just as the acquisition by Magnolia was something to note, this picture’s impending release is something to anticipate — which of course means there’s now a U.S. trailer.

What’s been assembled here is rather similar to the preview that arrived last summer, though domestic audiences are being handed a bit more, drama-wise — more dialogue, more glimpses at the central conflict, and fewer slow-motion shots set to elegiac music. Regardless of whether or not this is a more accurate view of Lindholm’s project, the material looks strong.

Synopsis:

Company commander Claus M. Pedersen (Pilou Asbæk) and his men are stationed in an Afghan province. Meanwhile, back in Denmark, Claus’ wife Maria (Tuva Novotny) is trying to hold everyday life together with a husband at war and three children missing their father. During a routine mission, the soldiers are caught in heavy crossfire and in order to save his men, Claus makes a decision that has grave consequences for him—and his family back home.

A War will enter theaters on February 12.
