After appearing in such films as Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World and 21 Jump Street, Brie Larson has finally received her much-deserved lead role. She popped up in Don Jon and The Spectacular Now at Sundance this year, but it was South by Southwest Film Festival that held the premiere of Short Term 12, an instantly acclaimed drama featuring the emerging star. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton based on his own story, the film picked up highest honors of Narrative Feature Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at the festival and ahead of an August release, we’ve got the debut trailer today.

As we said in our review, “Subtlety is a hard art to master, yet it abounds in the miraculously tender and poignant Short Term 12,” where we find Larson’s character working at a short-term foster care center where they house troubled youths until they are 18. We add that this is “filmmaking of the highest quality — the kind that earns every emotion and gives you something in return.” Check out the trailer below for the film also starring The Master‘s Rami Malek, John Gallagher, Kaitlyn Dever, Keith Stanfield and Kevin Hernandez, and see a portion of the original shorty.

Short Term 12 opens on August 23rd.
