Although he’s been steadily working his way up the Hollywood chain in films from Steven Soderbergh, Ridley Scott and Nicolas Winding Refn, this year marks Oscar Isaac‘s most impressive performance yet, in the Coens‘ stellar Inside Llewyn Davis. Thankfully, the actor shows no signs of slowing down, as we have updates on two of his upcoming projects.
First up, THR reports that Isaac has replaced Javier Bardem on A Most Violent Year, a 1983-set drama centered on a successful businessman who is obsessed with maintaining his oil empire. Jessica Chastain will be playing Isaac’s wife, while direction comes from J.C. Chandor, who is looking to add his Margin Call star Stanley Tucci, according to The Wrap. Production begins this January, while Chandor also has his sights set on a biopic surrounding legendary Green Bay Packers head coach Vince Lombardi.
In our next Isaac-related update, he was seen on this year’s festival circuit with not only Davis, but another period drama. Once titled Therese, the Charlie Stratton-directed film has changed titles to In Secret and will be released next spring. We now have the first trailer, which finds a story based on Émile Zola‘s novel following a love triangle between Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Felton and Isaac. The film seemed to get lost in the shuffle during TIFF, so hopefully it will glean more attention come next year. Check it out below for the drama also starring Jessica Lange.
Based on Émile Zola’s scandalous novel, Thérèse Raquin, IN SECRET is a tale of obsessive love, adultery and revenge set in the lower depths of 1860s Paris. Therese (Elizabeth Olsen of “Martha Marcy May Marlene”), a sexually repressed beautiful young woman, is trapped into a loveless marriage to her sickly cousin, Camille (Tom Felton of the “Harry Potter” franchise), by her domineering aunt, Madame Raquin (two-time Academy Award winner Jessica Lange). Therese spends her days confined behind the counter of a small shop and her evenings watching Madame play dominos with an eclectic group. After she meets her husband’s alluring childhood friend, Laurent (Oscar Isaac of “Inside Llewyn Davis”), she embarks on an illicit affair that leads to tragic consequences.
In Secret opens on February 21st, 2014.
