Following her acclaimed solo directorial debut Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig has jumped into studio filmmaking with a new adaptation of Little Women. Starring in this take on the Louisa May Alcott novel is Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Meryl Streep, Eliza Scanlen, Laura Dern, James Norton, Louis Garrel, Bob Odenkirk, Chris Cooper, and Abby Quinn. Ahead of a December release, the first trailer has now arrived.

“This feels like autobiography. When you live through a book, it almost becomes the landscape of your inner life. … It becomes part of you, in a profound way,” Gerwig told Vanity Fair, saying about the characters. “They were just people. They were not in a period piece, they were just living. They were the most modern people who had ever existed, up till that point.”

Little Women opens on December 25.
