Dean Wright, whose work to date mostly revolves around impressive visual effects — he even earned an Oscar nomination for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe — will be making his directorial debut with Cristiada, a historical epic that First Showing has debuted a trailer for. The script comes from Michael Love, and Wright‘s noteworthy cast includes Andy Garcia, Oscar Isaac, Peter O’Toole, Eva Longoria, and Bruce Greenwood. The embedded trailer can be found below, along with an extended synopsis taken directly from the film’s official website. As of right now, Cristiada is without an official release date.

Synopsis:

A chronicle of the Cristeros War (1926-1929), which was touched off by a rebellion against the Mexican government’s attempt to secularize the country. Caught up in a full-fledged civil war, they all must decide how far they are willing to go and what they’re willing to risk.
