It was earlier this year that Leonardo DiCaprio finally committed to his next role after taking a well-deserved break for much of last year, following the conclusion of shooting The Wolf of Wall Street. The project is Alejandro González Iñárritu‘s The Revenant, in a role he’s been attached to for around three years. It looks like he’s now bringing a friend along with him for the ride.

After working together on Inception, DiCaprio is looking to reteam with Tom Hardy in a rumor first floated by Schmoes Know and now confirmed by The Wrap. Produced by New Regency and distributed by 20th Century, it’s an adaptation of Michael Punke‘s 19th century-set western novel, in which DiCaprio will play the lead character of Hugh Glass, an injured fur trapper who’s robbed by two men after he can’t be brought back to civilization; after being left for dead, he escapes the wilderness and goes to find revenge.

We imagine Hardy will take the role of one of the bad guys, initially circled by Sean Penn. In the meantime, the director’s next film, Birdman, was set for a fall release by Fox Searchlight, a bit after this kicks off production in September.

Are you looking forward to a reunion?
