The Playlist has dropped an interesting bit of news regarding the status of Tom Ford‘s follow-up to 2009’s A Single Man, which earned an Oscar nomination for Colin Firth. For the past few months, Ford has been diligently close-mouthed about the nature of his follow-up, but The Playlist’s report has a brief quote from the writer-director that is rather informative for the time being:

“[‘A Single Man’] was my homo-angst movie. Now I’m shooting another. I’m writing the script — a comedy. I’m in the mood to have fun and smile.”

For my money, a comedy from Ford has the potential to be an incredibly interesting film. Not only does A Single Man present a filmmaker with very little comedic passion, but it also makes its mark as a visually passionate and elegant production — something that isn’t usually seen in comedies of today’s era. I’m not making any comment on whether it will be good or not, but there’s no denying the strong possibility that a comedic film by Tom Ford will separate itself from the pack in one way or another.

Are you looking forward to Ford’s next film?
