During Disney’s D23 Expo this past summer, we got word on new projects from Pixar. In light of the horrendous Cars 2, these especially timely announcements were a welcome remind of the creativity churning in the studio. We learned of a new film from Up co-director Bob Peterson, going under The Untitled Pixar Movie About Dinosaurs. It was described as, “What if that life-changing asteroid missed Earth? Director Bob Peterson’s hilarious tale depicts a world where dinosaurs never went extinct.” That will arrive on November 27th, 2013, but we got word on another film, from the other Up co-director.
Pete Docter‘s “inventive new film” was described as an exploration of a “world that everyone knows, but no one has seen: inside the human mind.” We finally got a few new details on the project, thanks to a recent appearance by John Lasseter on The Charlie Rose Show. (via FirstShowing). Check out his quote below
Pete Docter, from Monsters, Inc. and Up, is doing a new film that takes place inside of a girl’s mind and it is about her emotions as characters, and that is unlike anything you’ve ever seen.”
This new info lets us know the main character (or, at least where we’ll spend our time) will be a girl. I find the most interesting tidbit to be that our characters are actually emotions. I can’t imagine a silly thing like something out of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Grumpy, Happy, etc.) , so it will be extremely intriguing on what Pixar comes up with. Until we get more info, check out the video of Lasseter below.
Docter’s film will hit theaters on May 30th, 2014.
