While Joss Whedon’s The Avengers is already packed with star-power, boasting Chris Evans (Captain America), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), and Chris Hemsworth (Thor), rumor has is Marvel is on the prowl to add one more star to this superhero team.

THR reveals Marvel is looking to play down the sausage fest vibe by adding another lady to the lineup. But which comic book heroine will be hitting the big screen? The popular theory is The Wasp, a founding member and sometimes leader of the Avengers, who can fly, shrink, and fire energy blasts. The only word on casting at this point is she will not be played by troubled teen star Demi Lovato or previously rumored vixen Eva Longoria.

Playlist posits that the addition of The Wasp could lead to fellow Avenger founder, Ant-Man, being included. It’s hard to say as Edgar Wright has been toiling on an Ant-Man solo project, which Alan Tudyk is apparently not signed on for.

The Avengers isn’t set to hit theaters until May 4, 2012, leaving plenty of time to speculate before any solid news may break.

Who would you like to see play The Wasp?
