With the main crew coming back for a sequel to this summer’s The Amazing Spider-Man, Sony is now looking to fill out their cast — and they’re looking at some promising talent. While the first film kicked things off with Emma Stone as the love interest Gwen Stacy, the sequel is looking to bring back one of its most popular characters.
Variety reports the studio is looking to Shailene Woodley, who broke out last year with Alexander Payne‘s The Descendants, to fill the role of Mary Jane Watson (portrayed by Kirsten Dunst in Sam Raimi‘s trilogy), so perhaps we can expect some love triangles this time around. Villain talk has also started, as Electro (aka the lightning-equipped Maxwell Dillon) is at the top of rumored list for a baddie. As for another role, Sony is also looking to fill the character of Peter Parker’s best friend-turned-nemesis Harry Osborn (who James Franco previously played).
While Woodley would be a fantastic addition, hopefully Webb and team can greatly improve on the villain aspect this time around, as the Lizard was one of the weaker elements of the first blockbuster. Transformers and Star Trek scribes Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci have rewritten an original script from James Vanderbilt and production kicks off early next year.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 lands on May 2nd, 2014,
