/Film is reporting that David Chase, creator of The Sopranos, is set to direct a 1960s coming-of-age rock band drama. Chase also wrote the script upon which the film is based, and production will reportedly begin towards the end of the summer. The film will be released by Paramount Vantage, the indie branch of Paramount Pictures.

Chase has won, among many awards, 7 Primetime Emmys for his work on The Sopranos, but this untitled rock band film will mark his screen debut. I for one have no experience with the television show, although I’m going to make an effort to catch up with it in the coming weeks. I always prefer watching television series on DVD anyhow.

That’s really the extent of what we know at this point. Do you think Chase will make a successful transition to the big screen?
