After winning The Golden Lion for Somewhere at last year’s Venice Film Festival, there has been speculation as to what Oscar-winner Sofia Coppola will do for her next project. According to TMZ (via BleedingCool), it seems she’ll be staying close to her Hollywood roots as she has started planning a film based on the Hollywood burglar bunch dubbed “The Bling Ring.”
The Bling Ring consisted of a group of mostly teenagers from Calabasas, California who seemingly got bored and decided to rob the rich and famous. From October 2008 through August 2009, they reportedly stole thousands to millions of dollars worth of belongings from celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Orlando Bloom, Rachel Bilson and Lindsay Lohan. Vanity Fair writer Nancy Jo Sales covered their escapades in her story The Suspects Wore Louboutins.
Nick Prugo, one of the Bling Ring members, was approached to help with the film but declined. On the other hand, Playboy’s Cyber Girl of the Year 2010 and sister of Ring member Alexis Neiers, Tess Taylor, has signed onto the project. Production details for the film are quite slim as of now, but it does seems right up Coppola‘s alley. The only news we have is that the production will filter through her father’s American Zoetrope company.
What do you think of Coppola’s possible next project?
