And maybe that’s not the worst thing. Recall Seabiscuit, and how it did what every underdog sports movie’s every done, but did it really well, garnering seven Academy Awards nominations.

That one was written and directed by Gary Ross, a capable man who was behind films like Big and Pleasantville beforehand.

Secretariat is based on the the true story of the greatest race horse of all time, who won the Triple Crown (Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes), breaking time records in both the Derby and Belmont Stakes. The horse had an elusive beginning, full of coin tosses and suspense. Okay, maybe not an underdog like the Biscuit, but a good story nonetheless.

Unfortunately, Randall Wallace (writer of Braveheart, The Man in the Iron Mask and Pearl Harbor) is behind the camera on this one (he was behind the camera for Iron Mask and We Were Soldiers previously), so hope treads a tad lighter.

You be the judge:

Diane Lane looks to be playing the 70s version of Leigh Anne Tuohy (from The Blind Side), and if Bullock can do it, gosh-darnit so can she!

We’ll see.

What do you think of the trailer? Do you know Secretariat? Are you excited for a movie about the horse?
