Despite starting production last month, the Godzilla reboot from director Gareth Edwards continues to add cast members. Not long after landing Akira Takarada – the Japanese actor who starred in the original films – Ken Watanabe also boarded the monster movie. Now another name has joined the project, and this one should round out the main players.
According to Deadline, Sally Hawkins (Happy Go Lucky) snatched the final lead role in the tent pole from Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. The British actress will play a scientist, and will co-star alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, David Strathairn, Bryan Cranston and Juliette Binoche. The film adds to a number of projects Hawkins recently signed onto – she’ll also appear in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, and will star alongside Paul Rudd and Paul Giamatti in the comedy Almost Christmas.
Godzilla is scheduled for a 3D release on May 16th, 2014.
What do you think of Godzilla‘s ensemble cast now that Hawkins has joined?
