Not that it’s not really really intriguing and something that’d be really interesting to see play out on the silver screen, but let’s remember this is pure speculation: SuperHeroHype is suggesting that Guy Ritchie is hoping to woo Oscar-winner Daniel Day-Lewis to play uber-villain Professor Moriarty for the Sherlock Holmes sequel, which is on the fast track over at Warner Bros.
Brad Pitt has been rumored for the role ever since the first film opened. That hasn’t gained much traction, despite being equally enticing and considerably more conceivable. There’s little “fast-tracked” about anything Day-Lewis does. The man makes a movie every 2 to 3 years and it’s a full-scale project every time he takes on a new role. It’s strange enough he made a soulless vanity project like Nine, and since that brought back nothing but harsh criticism one can’t imagine he would take on another “commercial” role so quickly.
But who knows? It would be amazing to see Robert “The Comeback Kid” Downey Jr. face off with Day-Lewis, arguably his generation’s best actor. One of his only competitors for said title is…Downey Jr. Hmmmm.
Sherlock Holmes 2 is slated for a December 16, 2011 release date.
Would you rather Pitt or Day-Lewis play Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes 2? Anyone else more qualified?
