Michael Fassbender has turned from a merely recognizable face to a prolific star in an impressively short length of time. Working with such directors as Steven Soderbergh, David Cronenberg, Cary Fukunaga and, perhaps most notably, forming a strong partnership with Steve McQueen, he has risen up the ranks of Hollywood to become on the most wanted list of many of the best filmmakers out there. And with good reason too, for this is an actor who is truly afraid to take on anything; his visceral, intense method of acting allows for a diverse and unique range. His readiness to (quite literally) strip to the bare bones of acting and do it with a cool, effortless charm has established himself as one of the best leading actors working today, and he certainly has an eye for talent when it comes to directors, as his tracklist of films so far contains very few duds.

Up next, he is going to star in Ridley Scott‘s sci-fi epic Prometheus, as an android. They must have really hit it off together, because with that film still having a few months until release, Scott has already been pursuing Fassbender for his proceding project. That project is The Counselor, in which a high-flying lawyer starts to see his world crashing around him after he decides to enter the dangerous world of drugs. The film is also notable for being the first feature script by Cormac McCarthy, who has stated that this is very much in the vein of his novel, No Country For Old Men, which, as you no doubt recall, was adapted into an oscar-winning masterpiece by the Coen Brothers in 2007.

We now have confirmation from Deadline that Fassbender has agreed to star in the film and work is due to commence this May. There are some more cast announcements to come, including a big villain, for which we will keep you updated, so stay tuned. As far as I’m concerned, all three are among the very best in their respective mediums, and their coming together for a collaboration makes for very exciting news. The film, which follows “a respected lawyer who thinks he can dip a toe in to the drug business without getting sucked down” presumably won’t release into at least late 2013, but I have a feeling the wait will be worth it.

Are you excited to hear Michael Fassbender has officially signed on? Does the prospect of this collaboration entice you?
