Crash Oscar-winner Paul Haggis is assembling yet another major ensemble for his next film, but instead of just focusing on life in Los Angeles this time around, he’s headed across the world. Third Person already includes Liam Neeson, Mila Kunis, Kim Basinger, Casey Affleck, Olivia Wilde and James Franco; now Variety reports a few additions.
After being included in a casting line-up last week, Adrien Brody has been confirmed as part of the line-up. Following him we have Moran Atias, who worked with Haggis in The Next Three Days, as his love interest and lastly, A History of Violence star Maria Bello has been added in an undisclosed role.
That’s not all on the Haggis front though, as Deadline reports on financing for Gold, a contemporary thriller he wrote set around a ruthless search for the precious metal, with its main influence being The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. We got word over 18 months ago that Michael Mann was interested in directing the film, but with mention of him here, it looks like he has parted ways.
Things are still moving forward on the project though, which follows a 1993 scandal with Bre-X Mineral Corporation. Black Bear Pictures (Broken City, At Any Price) have come aboard as financiers and hopefully we’ll get talent attached to this one soon, but in the meantime, check out a rundown of Haggis’ upcoming Third Person below.
(Paris) Michael, a writer who recently left his wife, receives a visit from his lover Anna. The story explores their very complicated on/off relationship due to her inability to commit because of a terrible secret.
(New York) Julia has recently been charged with attempting to kill her son, a charge which she firmly denies. As a result of these charges, her son is now in the custody of his father Rick who’s trying everything in his power to take the boy away from her. Julia is trying at all costs to regain custody of her son.
(Rome) Sean, an American business man on a trip to Italy, falls in love with an Italian woman, Monica. Sean is inevitably drawn into a plot where he tries to free Monica’s daughter who has been kidnapped by an Italian gangster and is being held for ransom. Emotions run high as we and Sean question whether this is a set up or not.
Are you looking forward to Adrien Brody and Maria Bello joining the ensemble?
