Nicolas Cage Elijah Wood The Trust

All right, yes, it’s been some time since a Nicolas Cage-starrer was worth giving one’s attention to, and the basic set-up for Trust isn’t all that different from those numerous films we’ve ignored in years past — yet the first preview and basic credentials suggest something a cut above. My basic interest might come down to the very odd lineup of stars: along with Cage, Elijah Wood, musician Sky Ferreira, and Jerry Lewis (!) are making turns herein. By the looks of it, the material won’t be a total waste of that considerable talent.

As directed by music-video-cum-feature-directors Alex and Ben Brewer and co-written by Adam Hirsch, the Vegas-set comedy concerns two loose-limbed cops who decide to rob a drug dealer’s cash-filled vault. It would seem things eventually go wrong, as should be expected, but trailer is mostly humor-oriented — and none too bad on that count, despite the fact that Lewis doesn’t appear. (Methinks he won’t be involved in the shoot-outs on display, alas.) Between this and, per Deadline, the news that his upcoming Vengeance: A Love Story will be Cage’s first directorial effort since 2002’s Sonny, the man just might give us a decent string of new titles in the near future.
