linklater

Think of it as a primer ahead of next week’s release of The Criterion Collection’s Before trilogy box set. In between last year’s Everybody Wants Some!! and this year’s Last Flag Flying, Richard Linklater has helmed a political ad to oppose the proposed Texas Privacy Act, which would ban transgender people from using the bathroom they choose to identify with. Running a minute and featuring a wide range of Texans as they discuss the bill known as SB6, Linklater’s warm style is fitting for this ensemble piece.

Created for the ACLU of Texas and Legacy Community Health, the head of the Austin-based ad agency GSD&M, Duff Stewart, says “Should a ‘bathroom bill’ pass, Texas will be perceived as divisive and unwelcoming a reputation that will hinder our ability to attract diverse employees, clients and businesses, and devastate our economy.” Check out the spot below via Statesman.
