‘The Last of Robin Hood’ Finds A Father Figure in Patrick St. Esprit

Written by on February 19, 2013

Few actors earn reputations as legendary as that of Errol Flynn. On screen, the actor was a handsome, swashbuckling rogue who charmed the ladies in films like The Sea Hawk and The Adventures of Robin Hood. Off screen, his drunken, promiscuous debauchery was well known among his peers – it was said that his neighbor, Charlie Chaplin, even set up a telescope so he could spy on the leading man’s nightly exploits. Now Flynn’s colorful life will undergo the big screen treatment in a new biopic, and cast members are still boarding the project.

Patrick St. Esprit (Sons of Anarchy) has joined The Last of Robin Hood, which follows the actor’s last days before he died of a heart attack at age 50 in 1959. Written and directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland, the film examines Flynn’s relationship with Beverly Aadland, the 17-year-old actress who seduced and fell in love with the aging star.  [Variety]

Kevin Kline jumped at the chance to play Flynn last October, and was soon followed by Dakota Fanning, who will play Aadland, and Susan Sarandon, who will play the underage love interest’s mother, Florence. St. Esprit, who is currently shooting The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, will play Aadland’s father, Herb.

Production on The Last of Robin Hood started a month ago in January, but no release date has been set.

Are you familiar with St. Esprit’s work? Do you think he’s a good addition?
