It’s been a long time since Lindsay Lohan‘s name has been associated with any casting news but it seems the down-and-out actress has been cast as 1970’s pornstar Linda Lovelace in an upcoming biopic entitled Inferno. Lovelace, who starred in the infamous Deep Throat, became a leading figure in the anti-porn movement and died in a car crash in 2002.
Stars such as Courtney Love and Anna Faris have been previously rumored to play the ill-fated pop culture sensation. Lohan’s casting has been announced by the film’s producer, Wali Razaqi, to the LA Times and the film is gearing up to solicit financing at Cannes. Matthew Wilder is on board to direct the film.
This news is a big break for the troubled starlet, who hasn’t had a film in theaters since 2007’s I Know Who Killed Me, and has had difficulty securing roles since the producers of Georgia Rule publicly criticized her work ethic. The actress was recently fired from the ensemble film The Other Side but will be seen next in Robert Rodriguez‘s film Machete.
Although both Faris and Love are more interesting choices for Lovelace, Lohan does have potential to dig into the role. Playing a character with ripe comparisons to her public image could have a potentially adverse effect on her career but could also generate a significant amount of interest in the tabloids.
Are you excited to see Lohan back or do you think she is the wrong choice for this film?
