When it comes to a new addition to the Jurassic Park franchise, one can’t simply have dinosaurs run wild with no one to terrorize. So, ahead of a shoot kicking off in Hawaii by director Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed), Universal and crew have been quietly assembling their cast for Jurassic World.
With Bryce Dallas Howard in talks, Deadline now reports that Ty Simpkins has signed on the dotted line for a lead in the film. The 12-year-old actor, who recently came off Iron Man 3 and Insidious Chapter 2, has already worked with Steven Spielberg on War of the Worlds. There’s no details on his role yet, but if this film is indeed operating like a reboot, as rumored, we imagine he’ll share some of the same qualities as Joseph Mazzello‘s character in the original.
In less concrete news, word has it that Trevorrow is looking towards his Safety star Jake Johnson for another role, one we assume of a comedic bent. While it’s just a rumor for now, we would certainly be up for the talented New Girl and Drinking Buddies star to be a Jeff Goldblum-type here, but stay tuned for confirmation as it comes in. Penned by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Jurassic World opens on June 12th, 2015.
