While the talent and agency sides of Hollywood rarely cross over, manager Douglas Urbanski seems to be the exception. I can’t imagine the man is financially struggling, in need of a moonlighting gig, but after making a memorable, brief impression as Harvard President Larry Summers in The Social Network, he’s set to join another major Hollywood film.
The Hollywood Reporter lets us know that Urbanski will be joining his client Gary Oldman on José Padilha‘s RoboCop remake, playing the mayor of Detroit. In the film, Oldman creates the title character of a hybrid policeman, played by Joel Kinnaman. Reportedly Urbanski was called out of nowhere by Sony Pictures, with Padilha’s intent to cast him.
We also got word late last month that the director was going through “hell” to deliver a worthwhile film, but that has been cleared up by Latino Review. The director rvealed that he has a script he’s content with, as well as his top choices for cast. He added, “The director of photography is Lula Carvalho, my editor is Daniel Rezende (City of God, Elite Squad, The Tree of Life). I was even consulted for the selection of the producers.” And then he cleared up those studio battle rumors saying, “We deal with those difficulties with coolness and familiarity.” With production starting late this month in Toronto, it sounds like things are certainly moving ahead.
Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Jay Baruchel, Jennifer Ehle, Michael Kenneth Williams, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste all fill out RoboCop, which will open on August 9th, 2013.
