Before he took home Best Picture for his black-and-white silent drama The Artist, news hit that director Michel Hazanavicius would be helming a modern-day riff of Fred Zinnemann‘s 1948 film The Search. Revolving around a displaced mother’s tireless search for her son, a young Auschwitz survivor, in the aftermath of WWII, word was quiet for nearly two years, but an update has finally arrived.
Cineuropa reports that the production has been secretly underway for the last five weeks, confirming The Artist star Bérénice Bejo is the lead role as an NGO employee on assignment in Chechnya. We’ve also got news of another addition to the cast; while speaking with press at San Sebastian Film Festival for her latest film, The Face of Love, actress Annette Bening has confirmed her involvement in the project, but unfortunately added no other details. With the secretive shoot well underway, expect more surprises in the coming weeks ahead of a likely 2014 release. In the meantime, check out the original film in full below.
