With the 65th Cannes Film Festival winding down today, the jury has announced their winning picks. Following up Terrence Malick‘s The Tree of Life last year, Michael Haneke once again wins the Palme d’Or for his drama Amour (our review), after taking it home for The White Ribbon just a few years back. The other major winner was Cristian Mungiu, who won prizes for Best Screenplay and Best Actress (awarded to Cosmina Stratan and Cristina Flutur) for his drama Beyond the Hills, a film we were mixed on.
The other major win was Mads Mikkelsen‘s Best Actor nab for The Hunt, one of our favorites from the fest, along with the Grand Prix going to Matteo Garrone‘s Reality (our review). Lastly, it’s great to see Benh Zeitlin take home a much-deserved Best First Feature prize for the Sundance hit Beasts of the Southern Wild. Check out all the winners below via Movieline.
