Before we begin, no, this is not a remake of Agnès Varda‘s French New Wave classic. After attempting to woo Felicity Jones in Like Crazy, Anton Yelchin is now looking to up his game and bag an older woman in a new romantic comedy 5 to 7.
According to a press release, the Star Trek and Fright Night star is being cast as the male lead in the directorial debut from Mad Men producer Victor Levin, who also wrote the script. The woman in question will be played by Inglorious Basterds star Diane Kruger, as the story follows “an aspiring novelist (Yelchin) has a cinq-a-sept affair with the beautiful wife of a French diplomat (Kruger). Cultures, world views, personal ethics and dietary preferences clash as love deepens, with remarkable results in this romantic comedy.”
I’d love to see this one actually take place in realtime between 5 and 7 a la Richard Linklater’s Before Sunset/Sunrise films, but no mention of that means it will probably have a more standard narrative. Levin knows how to guide stellar stories and characters with his hit TV show, so we’re hopeful his talent transfers here.
Production kicks off im February in New York.
