While he was seen in films from Woody Allen, David O. Russell and more in recent years, much of Louis C.K.‘s attention has been focused on his hit FX show Louie. With a shorter new season of eight episodes, we’ve heard rumblings he was making time to return to the director’s chair and now today finally bring confirmation on the project.

According to THR, C.K. will follow the format of his show and write, direct, and star in the Scott Rudin-produced I’m a Cop. The story follows C.K. as a “depressed middle-aged man who is a volunteer police officer living in the shadow of his mother, a highly decorated retired officer. When she dies, her continued influence forces him to become a real police officer, which is something he never wanted to be.”

By the time we’ll likely see the film, it’ll be 15 years since his last directorial effort, Pootie Tang, a contentious experience which soured him from returning to the director’s chair. He’s clearly come a long way since then, building a following and his own voice, and we can’t wait to see the results. With production kicking off early next year, check back for additional casting and more details.
