Let’s all just take a collective sigh of somewhat disapproval with this news — Deadline reports that Lionsgate and WWE Films are in fact moving forward with this proposed Leprechaun remake we reported on back in March. The whole “Hollywood can’t come up with anything original” spiel just seems to be getting old, so I’m just going to get to the facts.
Both studios have hired largely-unknown scribe Harris Wilkinson to write the script for the reboot. Apparently the writer sold a spec script to Paramount a year-or-so ago, which was then developed into a pilot with Len Wiseman at Fox. Since Wilkinson hasn’t really written anything to date, it’s hard to determine anything new about the project that we haven’t already bashed or scratched our heads at.
Although it was just an assumption that the WWE wrestler Hornswoggle — who sports a similar, but less scary, outfit as the original — would in fact play the role of the sinister and murderous Leprechaun, it has been confirmed that he will be fitting that role. So, there you have it.
Does any of this Leprechaun news change your thoughts on the reboot?
