If one follows writer Bret Easton Ellis on Twitter, there’s no shortage of opinions, rumored happenings and some actual news. In the last few days, a wealth of all three have been revealed and first up is some actual casting news on his collaboration with Paul Schrader on their low-budget undertaking The Canyons. He announced that Lindsay Lohan and porn star James Deen will take the lead roles of Tara and Christian, respectively. Check out more details on their roles below via the casting call page, with both roles requiring some nudity.
Christian is “handsome, fit, a power player and major manipulator. He lives off a trust fund which pays for a house on the beach and dabbles in such avocations as film producing. But mainly it pays for his hedonistic life style. Christian enjoys setting up three-ways and filming them. Yet, despite his philandering ways, he is possessive about his current live-in girlfriend, Tara.”
Tara is “formerly a model, now arm candy and is “beautiful and withdrawn.” She has spirit and intelligence but somewhere along the way she has sold her pride for the material comforts Christian can provide.”
If Ellis wanted to draw attention, something he certainly has a knack for, this will do. While Lohan’s last film was two years ago with Machete, she’s currently portraying Elizabeth Taylor in Liz & Dick and rarely leaves the center of just about every tabloid. The Canyons begins shooting on July 9th, so we’ll find out who will fill out the rest of the roles, including Ryan, Gina, Lindsay and Jon soon.
In some pipe dream news, Ellis also revealed his interest in adapting Fifty Shades of Grey, the hot erotic novel that everyone is currently hiding inside their Kindles. In between quoting bible verses, the writer announced his intentions to go after getting the adapting gig to and already has David Cronenberg in mind for someone to direct. Check out his entire ramblings below as we wait and see what Universal Pictures actually decides.
I’m putting myself out there to write the movie adaptation of “Fifty Shades of Grey”… Contacted my agent about adapting “Fifty Shades of Grey” and have heard nothing back. But it’s a Saturday and Gay Pride, so: understandable. Completely committed to adapting Fifty Shades of Grey. This is not a joke. Christian Grey and Ana: potentially great cinematic characters. Hope E.L. James doesn’t think I’m being a prankster. I really want to adapt her novels for the screen. Christian Grey is a writer’s dream…
Okay. Today the team has been briefed and we will be approaching the studio this week about BEE adapting “Fifty Shades of Grey” into a film. Thanks to everyone supporting BEE adapting Fifty Shades of Grey: the response has been huge and amazing. Hope E.L. James feels the same way. The casting of Christian in “Fifty Shades of Grey” wouldn’t be up to me but I have certain actors in mind. And a particular actress for Ana.. I think David Cronenberg is a great idea for directing Fifty Shades of Grey and we worked together on American Psycho in its initial phase.
Would you want the American Psycho writer to adapt this Grey? What do you think of his Canyons casting?
