One of the most puzzling wins out of Sundance 2011 was Drake Doremus‘ Like Crazy picking up the top dramatic Grand Jury Prize. The long-distance love tale starring Anton Yelchin and Felicity Jones had a few things going for it, but I was underwhelmed and disconnected for much of the film. One can check our text review and video review for expanded thoughts, but with the high praise and Paramount distribution, as expected, we have news regarding the next film from Doremus.

LA Times has reported that director Drake Doremus, along with his co-writer Ben York Jones and producer Jonathan Schwartz will reunite for Through to You. The film will be adapted from Emily Hainsworth‘s sci-fi romance novel, which won’t hit shelves until 2012.

Ivan Reitman‘s Montecito Pictures Co., who produced Up In The Air, have the rights to the novel that follows “eighteen-year-old Camden Pike [who is] grieving for his dead girlfriend until he discovers she’s still alive in a parallel reality–one where he’s the one who died. The only problem is, she’s hiding some very dangerous secrets that have life-or-death repercussions in both worlds.” This is certainly similar territory for the filmmaker, who dealt with pain and loss in Like Crazy. I love stories with a tinge of sci-fi and while I didn’t adore Like Crazy, Doremus is a young director with lots of potential.

What do you think about this premise? Are you looking forward to Like Crazy?
