With every great foreign movie comes a usually not-so-great American retelling. In this case, it is looking to be different. THR is reporting that director Larry Fessenden (The Last Winter, Wendigo) is attached to direct the remake of the Del Toro produced 2007 film The Orphanage. He has also co-written the script with producer Guillermo Del Toro. They are currently in search for a lead actress.

I really had a great time with The Orphanage. A horror film that doesn’t rely on gore for scares is a must-see in my book. The original director Juan Antonio Bayona did a great job and I’m glad to see Fessenden tell his story. His most recent film The Last Winter had a engaging story, slightly mired by a low-budget.

Have you seen The Orphanage? Are you excited for a US remake by Fessenden?
