After seemingly spending the best part of three years in development hell, Kevin Smith’s Red State has a production start date and is close to confirming it’s supporting cast.
Smith tweeted that production would begin on September 22nd, and now rumors are suggesting that Michael Angarano (Lords of Dogtown), Kyle Gallner (The Nightmare on Elm Street remake) and Stephen Root (Office Space, Dodgeball ) are in talks to join the confirmed Michael Parks (Grindhouse) in the quote-unquote horror film, which is based on the controversial pastor Fred Phelps.
Melissa Leo (Righteous Kill) is also said to be circling the project, although earlier reports that Dermot Mulroney was also in line for the film appear to be wide of the mark.
If the rumors are true, it’s a solid cast which could get the hype starting on the somewhat troubled project.
