Working with Abbas Kiarostami, Olivier Assayas, Krzysztof Kieslowski, David Cronenberg, Michael Haneke and more, actress Juliette Binoche has one of the finest careers a thespian could ask for. But even the French actress can’t help being bitten by the Hollywood bug once in a while. We’ve seen her alongside Steve Carell in Dan in Real Life and more disastrously in the bomb Son of No One with Al Pacino and Channing Tatum, but now her highest profile role yet is lining up.
According to Variety, the actress is in talks to star in Warner Bros. and Legendary’s upcoming reboot of Godzilla. Helmed by Monsters director Gareth Edwards, if the deal closes, she would star alongside Kick-Ass‘ Aaron Johnson and Martha Marcy May Marlene star Elizabeth Olsen (there was also mention of Bryan Cranston, but not in this latest report.)
The idea of Binoche going toe-to-toe with the giant creature produces more than a fair share of laughs at first glance, but Edwards has previously shown he can craft solid characters in the sci-fi realm. With the latest script being completed by Frank Darabont, there’s no more details on which role Binoche may take, but we can all find out when Godzilla arrives on May 16th, 2014.
What do you think of the idea of Binoche in a Godzilla film?
