As writers battle over credits on his next feature Cowboys & Aliens, director Jon Favreau has lined up his next project. We already got an Animal this year and a Moon Rise next, now Favreau will bring the Magic. [Deadline]

He will direct a film dealing with the famous theme park Magic Kingdom coming to life. My only question, hasn’t this ground been covered with Night at the Museum and the sequel? And upcoming disaster known as Zookeeper? A sign of hope is a draft of the script has been written by Battlestar Galactica‘s Ron Moore. The studio is going off his work and will a hire a new writer to finish it with Favreau.

At first glance this seems like a poor idea, but Disney wants “a potential platform that could showcase a number of high-profile Disney characters, including Mickey Mouse and friends.” This brings to mind the Kingdom Hearts videogame and re-entering the worlds of classic Disney characters. I loved the game–mostly due to nostalgia–but if they could recreate these worlds in a respectable way, I would actual be intrigued.

Cowboys & Aliens hits theaters July 29, 2011 and then has a third Iron Man lined up for May 2013.

What do you think of this idea for Favreau’s next film?
