We know that Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and Hugh Jackman are all returning to Bryan Singer‘s X-Men: Days of Future Past (not to mention the bulk of the X-Men: First Class ensemble), but there’s still a few stragglers left that have yet to pipe up about their potential appearances. Replacing Matthew Vaughn, Singer’s story will include time-travel, which leaves the door open for said cast to return, and now we’ve got word from The Hollywood Reporter on how exactly they will fit in and which additional members are being considered.
The trade reports that these previous X-Men stars won’t have major roles as “Jackman and the others will appear mostly in scenes depicting an alternate dystopic future, so pay and time commitments are not substantial.” While the cast of 2011’s feature will continue in the 1960s timeline, our other members will pop up in this dark period, and aside from those that already have signed on, actors like Halle Berry and James Marsden have yet to commit but are still being considered. While it would be nice to see the whole gang back, I can’t imagine Singer is counting on everyone to show up — especially if they aren’t being given substantial roles.
However, we do have confirmation on a project we’ll see Marsden in soon, as he’s signed on to star in a Elizabeth Banks comedy. From Steven Brill (Drillbit Taylor, Mr. Deeds), the film is titled Walk of Shame and will see Banks lead this Hangover-like comedy wherein the actress plays “an aspiring Los Angeles TV news anchor” whose failed audition leads to a night of partying — something that, itself “leads to waking in a stranger’s bed with no money, no car, no memory and a phone message from her agent that tells her she actually won the audition.” There’s no word on who Marsden will play, but expect an update soon.
As for X-Men: Days of Future Past , with a cast led by James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult, the film will open on July 18th, 2014 and one can see a hint from Singer below on what the film may open with.
