Last summer when we heard the surprising news that Ridley Scott would be returning to his Blade Runner universe to helm another iteration, it was made adamantly clear that it would be a “total reinvention” and it would not involve Harrison Ford  whatsoever. It looks like Rick Deckard may indeed be back though, as a new report from Twitch indicates that Ford is in “early talks” to join the new film.

This coincides with an story a few months ago, where Scott hinted this new sci-fi project is “liable to be a sequel.” If Ford is indeed back, then this is no reboot, most likely a direct sequel to the 1982 sci-fi classic. The Alcon Entertainment-produced film was said to be close to finding a writer, but we haven’t heard any updates on that one.

I’m of a mixed mind when it comes to Ford returning. Scott seems to be doing an Alien prequel just fine without any of the original cast in Prometheus. With more than thirty years between Blade Runner and whenever we see this update, will Ford still fit into this world or would it be better with fresh blood? We are still early in the development process, but I’m very intrigued to see where this is headed. As for Ford, he’ll next be seen in the sci-fi epic Ender’s Game and the baseball biopic 42.

What do you think about Ford possible returning to Blade Runner?
