The trailer for Oscar winner Halle Berry‘s last-minute entry into the awards season, Frankie and Alice, has debuted today and it looks like it could guide the actress back for another nomination. Berry, who became the first African American actress to win the Best Actress award, plays a troubled woman with multiple personality disorder (one of which is a racist white woman) in the film alongside Stellan Skarsgård (Dogville) as her therapist and Phylicia Rashad (For Colored Girls) as her mother. Berry also serves as a producer on the film with Geoffrey Sax (White Noise) directing.

Halle Berry is the type of actress that really excites me because she is fearless when it comes to her performances. This doesn’t always work to her advantage as she often falls flat on her face but it when it does work she’s electric and her performance here looks to rival her best work. I’d love to see Berry emerge as a nominee as it would make her the first African American woman to score two Best Actress nominations (yes, the Oscars are still bad enough where no black woman has achieved this feat yet).
Frankie and Alice is in limited theaters December 10th and will open nationwide on February 4th 2011.
