A mere five years ago, cinematographer Greig Fraser was still working with collaborators in his native home of Australia including Jane Campion and Nash Edgerton, but it was only a short matter of time before he’d be one of the most sought-after talents in Hollywood. From Matt Reeves‘ Let Me In to Spike Jonze‘s Arcade Fire short Scenes From the Suburbs to Andrew Dominik‘s Killing Them Softly to Kathryn Bigelow‘s Zero Dark Thirty he rose in the ranks. This year, his work on Foxcatcher and The Gambler will soon be seen and now we have news on another high-profile gig he’s received.
“I’m doing a fucking Star Wars movie, which is like – I don’t know about you but Star Wars is like my first film love, do you know what I mean?… Gareth [Edwards] is doing a standalone film,” Fraser tells Kris Tapley‘s In Contention. “Of course I do know some specifics, but it’s obviously something I’ve signed my kidneys away for.” So, that’s all the details we’ll get for some time, but it’s a mighty fine choice, with his films often having a textured darkness that should match well with Edwards’ sensibilities. We do know production will kick off next year for a December 16, 2016 release and in the meantime, check out some of his work below and see more on his official site.
