Not to be confused with the recent Yves Saint Laurent biopic, which just got a U.S. theatrical release, Saint Laurent, the latest film from House of Tolerance director Bertrand Bonello, premiered at Cannes this year. Snatched up by Sony Pictures Classics for a U.S. release, they haven’t set a date yet, but today brings the first French trailer for the project.

Following the life (specifically in the 60’s and 70’s) of the late French fashion icon, played by Gaspard Ulliel, the film is co-written by Thomas Bidegain (Rust & Bone, A Prophet). Also starring Lea Seydoux (Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol, Blue is the Warmest Color) as his muse Loulou de la Falaise and Jeremie Renier (The Kid with a Bike), we reviewed it at Cannes, saying it’s “a flashy and intermittently unique biopic, yet it “feels all but too generic” as “a work that simply argues for its subject’s importance.” That flash certainly comes across in the first trailer, which has no subtitles yet, but can be seen below, along with a new poster.
