Thirty-seven-year-old actress Elizabeth Banks, star of numerous recent hits such as Role Models and Zack and Miri Make a Porno, has signed on to produce Perfect Pitch, a comedy about a college a capella group. No specific plot details have been released yet but it’s the sort of idea that seemed increasingly likely to transform onto the big screen given the popularity of things like High School Musical and Glee. Banks has only produced one film before in her relatively young career, and that was the 2009 Bruce Willis starrer, Surrogates which was neither a critical success nor a commercial one.
She will produce Pitch Perfect with her husband Max Handelman through their Brownstones Productions company. There is no word on why she had chosen this particular project to produce, but one reason might be the fact it’s being written by 30 Rock scribe Kay Cannon, a show on which she acted on for 13 episodes. Based on a non-fiction book by Mickey Rapkin, it shall be directed by Jason Moore and distributed by Universal.
It has not been confirmed whether or not she will star in the film and the likelihood of that remains up for debate. Personally, I doubt it considering she didn’t star in Surrogates and she has many upcoming movies to star in. Still, perhaps she’ll find room as a shooting schedule has yet to be decided. I think I’ll wait for more information before I let my anticipation levels rise, as the subject matter does not particularly interest me.
