After suffering budget cuts and changing release dates, this latest development on Gore Verbinski‘s The Lone Ranger is just another problem in a long line, with Deadline reporting that Dwight Yoakam has pulled out of the project due to scheduling conflicts.

Although Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, and Helena Bonham Carter are still up for all the western fun, suffering a casting blow like this is probably the last thing producer Jerry Bruckheimer wants to hear. But, when a production takes longer than expected, with shifting release dates, it’s hard not to assume something like this would happen. Yoakam was set to play one of the main villains — the leader of a gang, Butch Cavendish — for the film, which he seemed to be perfect for. No casting replacements have been announced, but with production starting in the very near future, I can only imagine we’ll hear something imminently.

The Lone Ranger hits theaters on May 13th, 2013.
