Although faith-based movies have proven to be a lucrative endeavor in the last few years, many have lamented the lack of aesthetic flourishes or talent the films can attract. Hopefully Captive, a new crime thriller starring Kate Mara and David Oyelowo, will change that notion. Ahead of a fall release by Paramount, today brings the first trailer for the film based on a true story.
The drama follows Ashley Smith (Mara), a single mother and recovering drug addict who was taken hostage in her own apartment by fugitive, murderer and accused rapist Brian Nichols (Oyelowo). With her back against the wall, Smith turned to the personal spiritual journey of Rick Warren’s best-selling book The Purpose Driven Life in an attempt to survive and help Brian find a better way out.
Also starring Leonor Varela, Mimi Rogers, Michael K. Williams, and Jessica Oyelowo, check out the trailer below for the film directed by Jerry Jameson.
Captive will be released on September 18th, 2015.
