After cranking out the comedy turds Your Highness and The Sitter, the latter being one of the most miserable experiences one could have theatrically last year, director David Gordon Green can honestly only go up from here. While many have lamented his plans to remake the horror classic Suspiria, it will indeed be his next project as the first piece of casting has come in.

Variety has reported that Isabelle Fuhrman, star of the Orphan and who last appeared in The Hunger Games, has nabbed the lead role of Suzy Banyon (played by Jessica Harper in Dario Argento‘s original). For those unfamiliar, it follows the US ballet student who makes a trip to a dance school in Munich, Germany, only to have things go terribly evil.

While I enjoyed the original, I don’t hold it in particularly high regard and I’m interested in seeing Green’s vision for this remake, if only to have him switch up styles from his last three films. As for Fuhrman, she pulled off creepy in Orphan and Green usually has a knack for casting, particularly realized in his early films, so looking forward to what he sees in her. She’ll next be seen alongside side Mr. and Jr. Smith in M. Night Shyamalan‘s After Earth.

Filming begins this September.

Do you want to see a Suspiria remake? Is this is a good casting choice?
