With a Missouri production well underway for David Fincher‘s adaptation of Gillian Flynn‘s novel Gone Girl, today brings news on the end target: a release date. 20th Century Fox have revealed that the drama will open in wide release on October 3rd, 2014, going up against Universal’s Dracula Untold. We imagine this one will be akin to the director’s last effort, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and skip the fall festival circuit, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Ben Affleck leads the story as Nick Dunne, whose wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), mysteriously disappears on their wedding anniversary. In additional casting, Tyler Perry is Tanner Bolt, the attorney of Affleck’s character and Neil Patrick Harris is in the role of Amy Dunne’s ex-boyfriend, Desi Collins, a character who figures heavily into the third act.

In other release date news for the studio, they’ve set Paul McGuigan‘s Max Landis-scripted, Daniel Radcliffe– and James McAvoy-led redo of Frankenstein for January 16th, 2015, while the animated Book of Life arrives on October 17th, 2014 and the Jesus drama Son of God (aka a condensed version of The Bible) hits on February 28th, 2014.

What do you make of the release slot?
