Early this summer got word on the next film from writer and director Martin McDonagh, who gave us the fantastic In Bruges. Titled Seven Psychopaths, the film has a fantastic cast of Christopher Walken, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke and Colin Farrell and will follow “a screenwriter (Farrell) struggling for inspiration for his script, Seven Psychopaths, who gets drawn into the dog kidnapping schemes of his oddball friends (Rockwell and Walken).” Rourke plays a gangster who loses his dog, which causes things to spin out of control. Since that update, we haven’t heard a thing.
With production gearing up Deadline now lets us know that CBS Films is close to coming on board as co-financier and US distributor. There isn’t many details beyond that, but we know the film will shoot in Los Angeles this fall for an expected 2012 release. The new shingle also picked up Salmon Fishing in the Yemen at TIFF for around $5 million, and we have another Toronto acquisition to report on.
While I didn’t get to check it out, Tanya Wexler‘s period romantic comedy about the invention of the vibratory, Hyseria, landed at TIFF with decent buzz. Deadline now reports we’ll all get to check out the film starring Hugh Dancy, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jonathan Pryce, Rupert Everett and Felicity Jones, as Sony Pictures Classics is coming aboard to distribute. I would expect they’ll hold out for a 2012 release since an awards play isn’t present here and they have a full fall slate with Carnage, A Dangerous Method, The Skin I Live In, A Separation and this week’s Take Shelter.
