Back in July it was reported that Nicolas Cage was in talks to play the villian in the upcoming film adaptation of The Green Hornet. Well according to THR today Cage has dropped out of the role. “The actor and the studio were not able to come to terms on a deal.” Columbia Pictures has not made any comment on the situation. The film began production last week with Seth Rogen. The film also stars Cameron Diaz and Jay Chou with Michel Gondry at the directing helm.
With the recent news that the film was being pushed back to December 17th, 2010, this should give the studio enough time to find a suitable replacement. I am a little upset at the news however. I was really looking forward to seeing Cage in the villain role which he doesn’t do often. The last notable villain role he played was in John Woo’s 1997 film Face/Off. Also, with Kick-Ass only months away I thought it would have been a perfect fit.
